What data we collect

When you use Cosy Reader or the Cosy Reader browser extension, we collect the following information:

• Your email address and password (for authentication — passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text)
• URLs of pages you choose to save as bookmarks
• Session information: IP address, user agent, and login timestamps (for security purposes)
• Newsletter content: sender, subject, and body (when you use your forwarding alias)
• Usage analytics: page views, feature usage, and error reports (via PostHog, hosted in the EU)

How we use your data

We use your data exclusively to provide and improve the Cosy Reader service:

• Authenticate your account and maintain your session
• Store and display your saved bookmarks
• Send transactional emails (verification, password reset, account deletion)
• Display newsletters you receive via your forwarding alias
• Improve the product through anonymous usage analytics

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Browser extension

The Cosy Reader browser extension requests the following permissions:

• tabs — to read the URL of your current tab when you choose to save a page
• storage — to remember your email address locally so you don't have to re-enter it each time
• host permissions — to communicate with the Cosy Reader API for authentication and bookmark saving

The extension does not collect browsing history, track your activity, or access any page content beyond the URL you explicitly choose to save.

Newsletter forwarding

Cosy Reader provides you with a unique email alias so you can subscribe to newsletters directly in the app. When an email is received at your alias, we store the sender address, subject line, and email body so you can read it within Cosy Reader.

Page metadata

When you save a URL, our servers fetch publicly available metadata from that page (title, description, and cover image) to display in your bookmarks. No page content beyond this metadata is stored.

Analytics

We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to collect anonymous usage analytics such as page views, feature usage, and error reports. This data helps us improve Cosy Reader. It is linked to your user account for debugging purposes and is never shared with third parties.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate Cosy Reader:

• PostHog — usage analytics (EU servers)
• LemonSqueezy — payment processing for premium subscriptions
• Postmark — transactional email delivery

Your data is hosted on EU-based servers. Each third-party service processes data according to their own privacy policy.

Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account settings. When you delete your account, all your bookmarks, newsletters, subscriptions, and personal information are permanently removed.
